I want to warn others about my extremely negative experience with Traveler Assistance / Traveler Insurance. In 20242025, my mother purchased a travel medical insurance policy from this company while visiting me in Canada. Unfortunately, she suffered a broken wrist and pneumonia, requiring multiple emergency visits, hospitalization, and follow-up appointments at Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa. Before each hospitalization and appointment, I personally contacted Traveler Assistance, submitted medical reports, and waited for their written approval before proceeding. Despite this, the company has refused to pay the hospital bills, which now total $23,999.37 CAD (? $17,519.54 USD).Traveler Assistance appears to be responsive in small or minor cases, but when it comes to serious hospitalizations or larger bills, they simply stop paying or communicating. For over seven months, they simply told me, "We're reviewing your case," without doing anything. This delay is clearly intentional and offensivethey're literally pulling my leg. When I asked them to provide me with their legal company address, they ignored me and didn't respond. That alone should be a major red flag for anyone considering hiring their services.I have documented all communications (email and WhatsApp), which will be used as evidence in the legal action I'm taking against Traveler Assistance. When I contacted the Colombian Financial Superintendency (where the company claims to be registered), they confirmed that Traveler Assistance/Traveler Insurance is not registered or authorized as an insurer in Colombia. I also contacted the Ombudsman for Life & Health Insurance (OLHI) in Canada, and they confirmed that this company is not a recognized insurer in Canada either. This strongly suggests that Traveler Assistance is an unregulated or fraudulent operation posing as an insurance company. Now, the hospital is pressuring my family to pay and threatening to send us to collections, even though we were victims of this company's deception.Warning: Do not rely on Traveler Assistance/Traveler Insurance for your travel coverage. Verify that any insurer is properly registered with a national regulator. This experience has been terrible and has caused tremendous time and frustration for me and my entire family.
