1. Who we are

This policy covers shopperchecked.com, which is operated by ShopperChecked. We decide how the personal information described here is used. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].

2. If you used ShopperChecked before October 2026

In October 2026 ShopperChecked moved to a new platform. Existing reviews, business pages, business accounts and blog articles were carried over as they were.

  • Reviewers: your reviews remain published under the name you used. We created an account for the email address you gave, without a password. To use it, choose "Forgot password" and set one. To have the account and its reviews deleted, email us from that address.
  • Business accounts: your existing password still works. When you first log in, it is stored again using stronger encryption.

3. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your email address, display name, password (stored only as a one-way bcrypt hash) and, if you add one, a profile picture.
  • Reviews: your rating, title and text, any photos or videos you attach, and the business you reviewed.
  • Other activity: replies, page claims, reports you send, reviews you mark as helpful, and support tickets.

Information collected automatically

  • A one-way hash of the IP address used to post a review. We do not store the address itself.
  • Your browser's user-agent string and the times of your actions.
  • The cookies described in our cookie policy.

Short-lived codes

Codes we create to confirm your email address, reset your password or verify that you own a business.

4. How we use it

  • To run the site: log you in, publish your reviews and replies, and count page views.
  • To protect it: apply posting limits, detect fake reviews and manipulation, and investigate reports.
  • To contact you when necessary: confirming your email, answering your messages and reports, and, if you turn them on, sending alerts about pages you manage.
  • To show what you have chosen to make public, such as your reviews and reviewer profile.

5. What is public

Your display name, profile picture, published reviews and replies appear on your reviewer profile and on the pages of the businesses you reviewed. Your profile shows the year you joined, not the exact date. Your email address is never shown publicly.

6. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We use a small number of service providers, each only for a specific task:

  • Brevo sends our emails, such as account confirmations, password resets, review invitations and alerts.
  • Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it against attacks.
  • Google handles sign-in if you choose "Continue with Google".
  • Our hosting provider runs the servers and database.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of people using the site.

7. If a business invited you to write a review

Businesses on ShopperChecked can ask their customers for reviews. They may send us your name, your email address, an order reference and the products you bought, directly or through a connected tool such as our WordPress plugin, their shop or their payment provider. The business decides to do this and is responsible for it. We use the information only to send the invitation and a single reminder.

  • Your email address is stored encrypted, and invitation links expire after 60 days.
  • Each invitation includes a link to stop invitations from that business or from every business on ShopperChecked. To respect that choice, we keep only a one-way fingerprint of your address.
  • You decide whether to write a review. If you do, this policy applies to it like any other review.
  • To have invitation details about you deleted, email [email protected] or contact the business that invited you.

8. Search engines and AI assistants

Published reviews are public. We allow search engines and AI services to read them, so your published review may appear in search results or be quoted or summarised by an AI assistant when someone asks about that business. Reviews show your display name only.

9. How long we keep information

  • Your account: for as long as it is open, then for a short period after you delete it so that abuse can still be investigated and mistakes corrected.
  • Your reviews: for as long as your account is open. A deleted review disappears from the site at once; we keep an internal record of it for moderation purposes, which is never shown or counted.
  • Codes: business verification codes for 7 days, email confirmation links for 2 days and password reset links for 1 hour.
  • Reports and moderation records: kept, so patterns of abuse can be investigated.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, including under California law, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to receive a copy of it, to correct it, to have it deleted and to object to certain uses. To make a request, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We reply within 30 days. You can also delete your account yourself from your account page, which removes your public profile immediately. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

11. Children

ShopperChecked is not meant for anyone under 16. If we learn that we hold information about a child without a parent's consent, we will delete it.

12. Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, session cookies are marked HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite, IP addresses are kept only as hashes, invitation email addresses are encrypted, and every view of a business's invitation list is logged. No system is completely secure. If you find a vulnerability, please report it to [email protected] and we will investigate. We'll credit you if you'd like.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of the page. For significant changes, we will also tell you on your account overview the next time you log in.
