Terms of service

The rules for using ShopperChecked, for shoppers and businesses alike.

Effective 16 Oct 2026. These terms form an agreement between you and ShopperChecked ("ShopperChecked", "we", "us").

1. Accepting these terms

By using ShopperChecked, whether you are reading reviews, writing one or managing a business page, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

2. Accounts

  • You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
  • Use an email address that belongs to you, and keep your password private.
  • Each person may have one account. If we find extra accounts used to raise or lower a business's rating, we may suspend all the accounts involved.
  • You are responsible for activity on your account. If you think someone else has got into it, tell us straight away.

3. Your reviews

You keep the copyright in the reviews you write. When you publish a review, you allow ShopperChecked to display, copy, distribute and quote it worldwide, free of charge, and to let others do so, including search engines and AI assistants, together with your display name.

A review must be about your own experience as a customer and must follow our review rules. We may hold back, edit to bring it within the rules, or remove a review that breaks them. If you delete your account, your reviews are removed from the public site.

4. Business pages

  • Only claim a business you own or are allowed to represent. If you pass verification using false information, we will cancel the claim.
  • Replies to reviews are subject to the same rules as reviews.
  • Only invite people who are really your customers. Using purchased or unrelated email lists can lead to your page being suspended.
  • To challenge a review, report it for breaking a specific rule. Pressuring reviewers, offering them something to change a review, or pretending to be a reviewer can cost you access to your page.

Businesses may buy a plan for a business page, adding tools such as invitations, website widgets, integrations and insights. A plan lasts one year and is paid in a single payment by one of the methods shown at checkout (currently bank transfer, Wise, Revolut, Binance Pay or cryptocurrency). It does not renew automatically. When the year ends, the page returns to the free plan unless a further year has been paid. Businesses may also buy sponsored listings, which are always labelled as sponsored. No plan or sponsored listing changes a business's rating or ranking.

6. What you must not do

  • Collect data from the site in ways our robots.txt file does not allow.
  • Attempt to break into, disrupt, overload or reverse-engineer the site.
  • Pretend to be another person, a business or ShopperChecked.
  • Post anything illegal, threatening or harassing, or anything that infringes other people's rights.
  • Buy, sell or exchange reviews, except through a business's own invitations, which are marked Verified.

7. Names and trademarks

Business names, logos and trademarks shown on ShopperChecked belong to their owners and are used only to identify the businesses concerned. If you think content on the site infringes your rights, contact us and tell us what it is, where it appears and why, and we will look into it.

8. Disclaimer and liability

ShopperChecked is provided "as is" and "as available". Each review is the personal opinion of its author, not a statement by ShopperChecked. We do not promise that the site will always be available or free of errors, or that any review is accurate. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for decisions you make based on content on the site.

9. Suspension and closing your account

We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, the review rules or the law. You can close your own account at any time from your account page.

10. Changes

When we change these terms, we update the date at the top. We tell account holders about significant changes on their account overview the next time they log in. If you continue to use the site after that, the updated terms apply.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the place where ShopperChecked is registered. If you have a complaint, please contact us first at [email protected], and we will try to resolve it with you.

12. Customer data businesses share with us

If your business sends us customer details so that we can invite those customers to review you, whether through our WordPress plugin, a connected shop or payment provider, a CSV upload or the API, you are responsible for that data (the controller) and we process it on your behalf (as processor). This section is our data processing agreement with you. It is part of these terms and does not need to be signed separately.

  • Data we receive. For each order: the customer's name and email address, the order reference and the names of the products bought. We do not ask for postal addresses, phone numbers or payment details.
  • How we use it. Only to send an invitation for the order and no more than one reminder, to connect any resulting review to the products bought, and to show you who has been invited. We never sell it, use it for our own marketing, or contact your customers about anything else.
  • Your instructions. Your settings, such as the delay before sending, whether reminders are on, and the connection itself, are your instructions to us. Disconnecting a connection stops new processing through it immediately.
  • Access. Only ShopperChecked staff who need the data to run and support the service can see it, and they are bound by confidentiality. Each time your invitation list is opened or exported, this is recorded in an access log.
  • Security. Customer email addresses are encrypted in our database with AES-256-GCM using a separate key, and look-ups use a keyed fingerprint instead of the address. Data is sent over HTTPS, access tokens for connected services are stored encrypted, and backups are encrypted.
  • Sub-processors. Brevo, which sends invitation emails, and our hosting provider, which runs the servers, database and backups. We will post notice on this page before adding a new sub-processor; you can object by disconnecting.
  • Customers' choices. Every invitation includes a one-click link to stop invitations, either from your business or from every business on ShopperChecked, and we respect it.
  • Requests and deletion. We will help you respond when a customer asks to see or delete their data. Email [email protected] and we will delete the invitation data you specify. Reviews that customers chose to write belong to them and remain subject to our review rules.
  • Breaches. If we become aware of a security breach affecting your customers' data, we will tell you without undue delay, and within 72 hours, explaining what happened, which data was affected and what we are doing about it.
  • Questions. We will answer reasonable written questions about how we meet these commitments.

For your part, you confirm that you have a lawful basis for sharing your customers' details with us for review invitations, that your own privacy notice tells customers about it, and that you only send us details of your own genuine customers.
